Raising Children in a Changing, Complicated, and Sometimes Scary World

Raising Children in a Changing, Complicated,
and Sometimes Scary World
with Barbara F. Meltz
Sometimes it’s hard to know what to say to our children about the violence and dangers of our imperfect world. How can we be honest with our kids without raising them to be fearful? For our next lecture we are very pleased to welcome Barbara Meltz, author of the award-winning “Child Caring” column in The Boston Globe. Her presentation, drawn from her book Put Yourself in Their Shoes: Understanding How Your Children See the World, offers practical advice on how to approach difficult subjects in a way that is developmentally appropriate and reassuring.
Barbara is going to help us identify life events that children might need help with, for example a death in the family, the birth of a sibling, telling a secret, stealing, media violence or having access to the news. She will provide us with strategies on how to cope with those events and what to do and say to our children. Please join us for this timely and important discussion!
Registration begins at 7 pm. Lecture begins promptly at 7:30.
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Due to the popularity of some lectures, we cannot guarantee availability for walk-ins.
This lecture is free to Parent Talk Members. Non-members are welcome at a pre-paid rate of $10 or a walk-in rate of $15 at the door. No refunds, non-transferrable. On-line registration will close the day before the lecture. If there is space available, walk-ins will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. If you will be coming as a walk-in please understand that there may be a slight wait either to process walk-in registrations or check for available space.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. It is certainly our goal to open the lecture to as many people as possible.
